Missouri Cotton, Rice Planting Pace Ahead of Average



There were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday. Temperatures last week averaged 70.1 degrees statewide, 1.4 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.38 inches, 0.41 inch above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2 percent short, 74 percent adequate and 24 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3 percent short, 84 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus.

Corn planted was 95 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 93 percent. Corn emerged was 76 percent compared to the 5-year average of 87 percent. Corn condition was rated at 1 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 23 percent fair, 64 percent good, and 7 percent excellent.

Soybeans planted was 61 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 61 percent. Soybeans emerged was 44 percent compared to the 5-year average of 46 percent.

Cotton planted was at 96 percent compared to the 5-year average of 87 percent. Cotton squaring was at 2 percent compared to the 5-year average of 4 percent. Cotton condition was rated at 7 percent very poor, 11 percent poor, 23 percent fair, and 59 percent good.

Rice planted was 96 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 93 percent. Rice emerged was 81 percent compared to the 5-year average of 87 percent. Rice condition was rated 9 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 53 percent good and 6 percent excellent.

Winter wheat harvest was at 1 percent compared to the 5-year average of 2 percent. Winter wheat condition was rated 6 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 54 percent good and 8 percent excellent.
