Missouri drivers will soon have year-round access to E15 fuel, a blend containing 15% ethanol, thanks to an announced White House decision. This move, championed by Governor Mike Parson and other Midwest leaders, expands driver choice and promotes a homegrown energy source.
"This announcement is good news for consumers," said Missouri Corn Growers Association President Brent Hoerr. "E15 is cleaner, more affordable, and grown right here in our state."
Traditionally unavailable during summer due to outdated regulations, E15 offers a lower Reid vapor pressure than most fuels. In December 2022, Governor Parson joined other governors in requesting a waiver to allow year-round sales. While the process took longer than expected, the administration's approval paves the way for increased ethanol use.
"Leaving this barrier in place made no sense, especially with growing energy needs," Hoerr emphasized. "E15 benefits both drivers and our agricultural community."
Approved by the EPA in 2011, E15 is compatible with over 96% of vehicles on the road today. This decision marks a significant step towards wider adoption of cleaner, domestically produced fuel, bringing benefits to both consumers and the environment.
