The Missouri Farm Bureau awarded a $500 grant to the Paris FFA and second grade teacher Marie Ebbesmeyer to expand their ag in the classroom program. The grant will be used to purchase books about agriculture at a level that second graders can read and understand.
Ebbesmeyer said the program pairs high school students with second graders to teach them about agriculture. Last year, the students wrote reports on agriculture, and Ebbesmeyer said they loved their buddies.
Sophomores Mairyn Kinnaman and Khloee Hendren said they enjoyed sharing their ag knowledge with the second graders. They said it was a good experience for both the kids and them.
FFA advisor Josh Bondy said some extra money from the grant could also be used to send the second graders and high school ag students to local farms and animal barns.
