Missouri farmers progress with soybean and wheat harvests

Farmers across Missouri had 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending November 24, 2024. The statewide average temperature reached 47.5°F, surpassing the norm by 4.8°F. Rainfall averaged 0.90 inches, which is marginally above the typical 0.88 inches for this time of year.

Topsoil moisture conditions were reported as 1% very short, 8% short, 85% adequate, and 6% surplus. Subsoil moisture ratings indicated 4% very short, 15% short, 79% adequate, and 2% surplus. These figures highlight generally favorable moisture levels across the state.

Soybean harvests have reached 95% completion, aligning perfectly with the five-year average. Similarly, winter wheat planting is progressing well, with 96% of the crop planted, slightly ahead of the five-year average of 95%. Emergence for winter wheat stands at 82%, slightly trailing the five-year average of 84%.

Winter wheat conditions were predominantly positive, with 71% rated as good and 7% as excellent. Meanwhile, 20% of the crop was rated fair, with only 1% categorized as poor and another 1% as very poor.

Overall, this week’s report reflects steady progress in Missouri’s agricultural landscape. Farmers remain on track with seasonal benchmarks, supported by favorable weather conditions and adequate soil moisture levels.
