The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has awarded $100,000 in Clean Water Engineering Report Grants to the cities of Houston and Carrollton to evaluate and improve their wastewater treatment systems.
Each city will receive $50,000 to fund engineering studies that identify necessary upgrades to ensure reliable service, compliance with permit requirements, and reduced stormwater infiltration into sewer pipes. Houston's facility plan is expected to be finalized by June 2025, while Carrollton's should be completed by July 2025.
"Wastewater systems are critical infrastructure for every community," said Dru Buntin, DNR Director. "These grants will help cities like Houston and Carrollton identify improvements needed to maintain and enhance their wastewater systems, protecting public and environmental health and ultimately improving the quality of life for Missourians."
The DNR is committed to supporting Missouri communities in maintaining and upgrading their water and wastewater infrastructure. Through its Financial Assistance Center, the department offers funding opportunities for qualified communities facing water quality, wastewater, and drinking water infrastructure challenges. This project is partially funded with assistance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
