Missouri lawmakers to review solar farm regulations

Missouri lawmakers to review solar farm regulations

By Blake Jackson

A Missouri lawmaker is calling for a review of solar farm regulations in the state. Rep. Mike Haffner, R-Pleasant Hill, says he is concerned about the impact of solar farms on farmers and the environment.

Haffner says that solar energy contracts do not protect the interests of farmers when the farm is no longer used for solar purposes. He also says that if a solar company goes bankrupt, farmers could be left with concrete and solar panels on their land.

Haffner also says that there is a loophole in Missouri law that allows solar companies to take their neighbor's land to expand their solar farms or connect to the power grid.

Haffner says he plans to introduce legislation in the 2024 Legislative Session to address these concerns.
