Thirty-six talented youths from across Missouri gathered at the University of Missouri Animal Science Research Center in Columbia for the highly anticipated 2023 State 4-H Poultry Day. The event, held on June 10, provided a platform for young participants to engage in various competitions and gain valuable knowledge about the poultry industry.

Activities included a poultry judging contest, quiz bowl, egg demonstration contest, photo contest, and dozen egg contest. The State 4-H Poultry Day offered an exceptional opportunity for participants to not only explore cutting-edge industry practices but also acquire essential poultry-related knowledge crucial to their future projects and endeavors.

Maria Calvert, MU Extension state 4-H agriculture educator, emphasized the significance of the event, highlighting how the youth benefited from developing skills in grading eggs and poultry carcasses, identifying poultry cuts, and selecting high-quality live poultry. Additionally, the participants had the chance to network with like-minded individuals from different regions of the state, fostering connections with fellow poultry enthusiasts.

The outstanding performance of the top participants in various categories. Kaitlynn Murphy of Callaway County excelled in the dozen egg contest, while Judd Lawason of Cedar County claimed first place in the photo contest.
