The Southwest Missouri All Breeds Performance Tested Bull Sale will mark its 106th event on Monday, October 27, at the Springfield Livestock Marketing Center in Springfield, Missouri.
The sale, hosted by the Southwest Missouri Beef Cattle Improvement Association in cooperation with the University of Missouri Extension, continues its long-standing tradition of providing superior-quality bulls that meet strict performance and genetic standards.
The sale will begin at 7 p.m., with an educational session at 5:30 p.m. titled “Buying Bulls by the Numbers.” This session, organized by University of Missouri Extension livestock specialists, will guide cattle producers on how to effectively interpret and use Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) when making bull purchases.
This year’s sale offering includes 26 bulls, featuring 23 Angus, one Hereford, one Gelbvieh, and one SimAngus. Each bull in the sales has undergone rigorous evaluation based on both genomic testing and performance measurements, ensuring only the top performers are present for bidding.
“These bulls are evaluated for key genetic traits that directly impact herd profitability and productivity,” says University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist Patrick Davis. “This sale pays close attention to genomics and performance measurements when developing the offering of bulls.”
Bulls consigned to this event must have EPDs above average in at least three of six key categories, including calving ease direct, weaning weight, yearling weight, milk, marbling, and ribeye area. In addition, each bull is genomic tested, which improves the accuracy of their EPDs and boosts buyer confidence in their long-term performance potential.
The sales focus on data-driven selection allows producers to invest in bulls with proven genetic merit, ensuring stronger calves, improved herd efficiency, and better market outcomes.
The event also highlights the region’s commitment to advancing beef cattle genetics through research-based practices and continuous education.
The Southwest Missouri All Breeds Performance Tested Bull Sale remains one of the region’s most respected livestock events, providing a platform for breeders and buyers to exchange top-quality genetics that strengthen Missouri’s beef industry.
Interested buyers and producers are encouraged to attend the educational session prior to the sale to enhance their understanding of genetic selection tools and make informed breeding decisions for their operations.
