The University of Missouri Agricultural Lenders School is holding a training program for early-career lenders and those new to agricultural loan management. Designed to enhance participants agricultural finance expertise, the intensive program will take place from June 3rd to 6th in Columbia, Missouri.
This school provides in-depth training through presentations, case studies, and hands-on exercises, explains MU Extension agricultural economist Ryan Milhollin. Our aim is to equip lenders with the knowledge to make informed loan decisions in the current market.
Attendees will gain valuable insights into various agricultural finance concepts and issues. The curriculum covers topics like:
- Analyzing agricultural financial statements
- Key considerations in agricultural credit analysis
- Financial benchmarks and relevant comparative data
- Effective communication strategies with farmer clients
- Practical servicing issues specific to agriculture
- Emerging trends and challenges in agricultural finance
- Legal aspects and lien documentation
- Agricultural risk management strategies
- The loan completion process
The program also features presentations on MU resources, federal programs, and the farm bill by MU Extension agricultural economist Ben Brown. Additionally, Linda Sowers, an agricultural economics instructor, will offer guidance on "Marketing Yourself as a Lender.
Led by Freddie Barnard, a Purdue University professor emeritus and a pioneer in Farm Financial Standards development, the program boasts a lineup of industry experts, lending professionals, and MU faculty members.
Since its inception in 2000, the Agricultural Lenders School has empowered over 700 lenders nationwide to strengthen their skills and better serve their agricultural clientele. With limited space available, registration is encouraged before May 13th.
