Farmer harvests corn as crop season nears completion

There were 4.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 29, 2023. Temperatures last week averaged 58.6 degrees, 4.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.72 inches; 1.07 inches above normal.

Soil Moisture Conditions

Topsoil moisture supply rated 16 percent very short, 33 percent short, and 51 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture supply rated 27 percent very short, 36 percent short, and 37 percent adequate.

Crop Progress

  • Corn harvested for grain reached 84 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 80 percent.
  • Soybeans harvested reached 75 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 56 percent.
  • Cotton harvested reached 79 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 59 percent.
  • Rice harvested reached 96 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 93 percent.
  • Winter wheat planted reached 66 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 56 percent.
  • Winter wheat emerged reached 36 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 34 percent.

Overall, the crop season is on track and progress is being made on harvesting corn, soybeans, cotton, and rice. Winter wheat planting is also progressing well.
