House Approves Key Bill for Rural Progress

House Approves Key Bill for Rural Progress

By Blake Jackson

A major legislative step forward has been taken to support rural communities and family farms. The House recently passed the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” a package of key reforms designed to strengthen rural America, particularly in Missouri.

The bill includes several top priorities of the Missouri Farm Bureau. One major win is the permanent extension of tax provisions such as the increased estate tax exemption, Section 179 expensing, and the continued use of cash accounting. These measures will help farmers and small businesses manage operations more efficiently and plan for future generations.

It also boosts the farm safety net by raising reference prices under key farm bill programs and modernizing dairy margin coverage. These changes aim to provide better support for farmers facing market challenges.

Additionally, the legislation promotes affordable, reliable, and domestically produced energy. It contains several provisions to support biofuels and rural energy development, further empowering local economies.

Missouri Farm Bureau officials say these combined efforts will help bring the next generation back home to rural Missouri. They believe this bill lays a foundation for stronger, more resilient rural communities that future generations can thrive in.

The organization praised House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith for his leadership. With support from Missouri’s congressional delegation, Chairman Smith has worked hard to deliver results for rural families.

As the bill heads to the Senate, farm leaders remain hopeful that continued discussion will lead to lasting solutions for farmers, families, and the future of rural America.
