Land O'Lakes Invests in Future Dairy Growth

By Jamie Martin

Land O'Lakes is strengthening its dairy business through a strategic investment in its processing facility in Tulare, California. The project will expand the plant's ability to produce high-value dairy proteins, helping the cooperative respond to increasing demand for protein-based nutrition.

"At a time when protein is reshaping how consumers eat and how the food system operates, this investment positions Land O'Lakes, our Tulare facility and our farmer-owners to lead," said Heather Anfang, EVP of Land O'Lakes and President of Dairy Foods. "We are continuing to build a more resilient, growth-oriented dairy business while creating new demand for member milk and laying the groundwork for long-term opportunity."

The upgraded facility will be equipped to manufacture ultra-filtered milk; a key ingredient used in a variety of protein-enhanced foods and beverages. This expansion is expected to create additional demand for member-produced milk while improving opportunities for future growth.

Consumer interest in protein continues to rise as more people focus on nutrition, health, and wellness. New dietary trends and changing eating habits are increasing demand for dairy proteins in domestic and international markets. Industry experts expect this trend to continue for the rest of the decade.

Land O'Lakes believes the Tulare investment will help position the cooperative to meet future protein needs while supporting its farmer-owned structure. By producing higher-value dairy ingredients, the company aims to generate stronger returns for members and open access to new market opportunities.

The Tulare region plays an important role in U.S. dairy production and is home to many Land O'Lakes farmer-owners. The facility benefits from a strong milk supply, existing processing infrastructure, and access to global customers seeking dairy protein products.

In addition to supporting farmers, the investment is expected to strengthen the local economy and maintain the facility's role as a key part of the cooperative's dairy network. Company leaders view the project as an investment in innovation, agricultural sustainability, and long-term business growth.
