Missouri crop progress and conditions for August 2024

There were 6.2 days suitable for fieldwork in Missouri for the week ending August 4, 2024. The statewide average temperature was 81.2 degrees, which is 4.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.47 inches, which is 0.25 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated as 1 percent very short, 18 percent short, 77 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated as 10 percent short, 88 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus.

Crop Progress as of August 4, 2024:

Corn:

  • Silking reached 96 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 93 percent.
  • Dough reached 76 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 57 percent.
  • Dented reached 22 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 4 percent.
  • Condition: 4 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 57 percent good, and 20 percent excellent.

Soybeans:

  • Blooming reached 78 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 70 percent.
  • Setting pods reached 52 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 38 percent.
  • Condition: 3 percent very poor, 5 percent poor, 18 percent fair, 61 percent good, and 13 percent excellent.

Cotton:

  • Squaring reached 93 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 89 percent. Setting bolls reached 56 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 60 percent.
  • Condition: 3 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 28 percent fair, and 61 percent good.

Rice:

  • Headed reached 64 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 47 percent.
  • Condition: 2 percent very poor, 7 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 74 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.

The data from the National Agricultural Statistics Service indicates significant crop development in Missouri. Despite the varying moisture levels, farmers are effectively managing their fields to ensure a good harvest.
