This week, according to the Missouri Crop progress report from The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistic Service (NASS), there were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 4, 2023.
Temperatures last week averaged 73.8 degrees, 5.3 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.34 inches, 0.59 inches below normal.
Topsoil moisture supply rated 31% very short, 44% short, and 25% adequate.
Subsoil moisture supply rated 27% very short, 42% short, and 31% adequate.
Corn Planting Progress
As of June 4, corn emergence is at 96%, which is 3% more than last week's total. This is also 12% more than the 5-year average of only 84% emergence.
Corn condition rated 4% very poor, 12% poor, 38% fair, 44% good and 2% excellent.
Soybean Planting Progress
As of June 4, 91% of Missouri's soybeans had been planted. That is a 5% jump from last week's reported numbers, and 34% higher than the 5-year average of only 57% planted.
Soybean emergence is at 80%, which is an 11% jump compared to last week's report. This is still well ahead of the 5-year average of only 42% emerged.
