Thinking about growing your own lettuce, tomatoes, or basil but lack outdoor space? The University of Missouri Extension has you covered with their "Hydroponics Education for Small Farmers" workshop.
This hands-on workshop, led by MU Extension horticulture specialists, dives into the world of hydroponics, a method of growing plants without soil. You'll learn the basics of controlled-environment agriculture and how to cultivate these popular vegetables using a nutrient solution.
"Having the scientific, practical and economic information of hydroponics is a great set of tools to add to the small farmer’s toolbox," says Eli Isele, workshop coordinator. "This is a real opportunity to level up your knowledge of hydroponics all in one workshop.”
Beyond the practical skills, you'll also gain valuable insights from MU Extension's agricultural business specialists. They'll introduce you to a hydroponic leafy greens enterprise budget and guide you through the steps of starting a small farm.
But the learning doesn't stop there! Each participant will receive a hydroponic starter kit a deep water culture system perfect for growing lettuce and other leafy greens at home.
The workshop takes place on Wednesday, December 4th, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the MU Extension Center in St. Charles County (260 Brown Road, St. Peters). Lunch is included in the registration fee of just $15.
