UCM launches online cannabis training programs

By Blake Jackson

The University of Central Missouri (UCM) is launching new online cannabis training programs to equip adults for careers in Missouri's booming cannabis industry. Partnering with Green Flower, a leader in cannabis education, UCM offers three nine-week certificate courses starting in April.

The programs cover essential skills for various cannabis industry roles. "Advanced Dispensary Associate Skills Training" prepares individuals to assist customers in dispensaries, offering accurate product and usage guidance. "Cannabis Manufacturing and Cultivation" delves into the processes behind growing and producing cannabis products.

These comprehensive, self-paced online programs cater to busy adults, allowing them to gain expertise at their own convenience. With Missouri's adult-use cannabis sales exceeding $1.4 million since February 2023, new opportunities are sprouting in cultivation, retail, and product development.

"We believe UCM's focus on student success aligns perfectly with our mission," said Daniel Kalef, Green Flower's chief growth officer. "These programs will empower individuals to enter and thrive in the rapidly expanding cannabis industry."

Each program costs $750, but those enrolling in April can use the code UCMFIRST for a $150 discount. Graduates earn certificates from UCM and digital badges, gaining access to Green Flower's employer network.

"The industry requires expertise in areas like quality control, patient care, and horticulture," Kalef added. "These programs equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success."

The course options include:

UCM's Center for Workforce and Professional Education offers a variety of certificate programs in high-demand fields. With scholarships available and flexible learning options, UCM helps adults gain valuable skills for successful careers.
