Women landowners - Ag lease and land value workshops

By Blake Jackson

The University of Missouri Extension is offering a series of workshops, titled "On My Own," designed to equip women landowners and operators with essential knowledge about agricultural leases and land values.

These workshops will take place throughout the state from October 15, 2024, to February 25, 2025, and will also be available online.

Amie Breshears, an ag business specialist with MU Extension, will share valuable insights from recent surveys on rental rates and farmland values. The workshops will cover essential topics such as:

  • Components and common types of agricultural lease arrangements
  • Determining the approximate monetary value of leasing agricultural lands
  • Determining the approximate value of agricultural lands
  • Determining the average rate for various custom work activities

While the "On My Own" program is specifically tailored for women who are first-time sole operators of their farm enterprises, it is open to all interested individuals. Breshears said. “These workshops are an opportunity to network and build connections with other participants in similar operating roles.”

Attendees will receive a comprehensive folder of information and resources to take home.

All workshops are scheduled from 6-8 p.m.

  • October 15: Warsaw, Warsaw First United Methodist Church
  • October 24: Warrensburg, Johnson County Extension Center
  • November 6: Boonville, Cooper County Extension Center
  • December 10: Online
  • December 12: Sedalia, Pettis County Extension Center
  • January 14, 2025: California, California City Hall
