The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a helping hand to farmers in Linn, Macon, Chariton, Randolph, Saline, Pettis, and Lafayette counties.
Through the Precision Farm Data RCPP program, landowners can improve their bottom line while protecting the environment.
This program provides cost-sharing opportunities to convert unprofitable cropland into valuable field borders, streambank buffers, or pollinator habitat.
Here's what you can gain:
- Reduced Costs: The program covers 75% of the cost to establish these new areas.
- Improved Profitability: Converting unproductive land can free up resources for more profitable areas of your farm.
- Enhanced Water Quality: Buffers help prevent soil erosion and filter pollutants before they reach waterways.
- Healthier Soil: Native grasses improve soil health, leading to better crop yields in the long run.
- Wildlife Habitat: New habitats provide essential shelter and food for wildlife.
Bonus for Pollinators! Plant a pollinator-friendly field border at least 45 feet wide and receive an additional $300 per acre incentive.
The deadline to apply is November 29th. Contact your local NRCS office.
This program, a collaboration between the MDC, NRCS, and other partners, demonstrates the power of cooperation in achieving conservation goals.
By combining the expertise of farmers, conservation organizations, and government agencies, we can ensure a brighter future for Missouri's working lands and wildlife.
