The University of Missouri Extension is inviting all livestock producers to the 95th Barry County Soil and Crops Conference, taking place on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:15 PM at First Christian Church in Cassville, Missouri.
This year's conference focuses on cattle leasing as a strategy for navigating the challenges of drought and limited working capital. With the regional cow herd significantly reduced due to recent dry conditions, many producers have acres ready for grazing but lack the resources to invest in their own cattle. Cattle leasing offers a potential solution, allowing farmers to generate income from their land while minimizing long-term commitments.
Expert Speakers and Valuable Insights
The conference features a lineup of experienced professionals sharing their knowledge and advice on cattle leasing:
Gary Schad, Jeff Schoen, and John Wheeler: A panel of producers with extensive experience in leasing arrangements will provide practical tips and insights.
- Jennifer Lutes, MU Extension Ag Business Specialist: Lutes will present "Cattle Leasing Options," outlining the different leasing models available and their implications.
- Tim Schnakenberg, MU Extension Agronomist: Schnakenberg will guide participants on calculating optimal stocking rates to maximize grazing potential while preventing land overuse.
- Chez Kleeman, USDA: Just in time for spring calving season, Kleeman will offer valuable information on protecting newborn calves from black vultures.
Investing in Your Farm's Future
"The planning committee carefully designed this conference with your farm's success in mind," says Reagan Bluel, MU Extension Dairy Specialist. "We encourage you to register and join us for this informative event, whether you're a seasoned cattle producer or just considering leasing as an option."
