Intel for Ag unlocks business growth in agriculture

Intel for Ag unlocks business growth in agriculture

By Blake Jackson

The University of Missouri Extension has launched Intel for Ag, a transformative online platform designed to assist both novice and experienced farmers in enhancing their agricultural businesses. This free, user-friendly tool provides essential insights and resources tailored to the unique needs of each user, facilitating smarter, more sustainable agricultural decisions.

Intel for Ag simplifies complex management concepts, making them easily accessible. It allows users to assess the viability of various agricultural products, ensuring they choose the most suitable and sustainable options for their specific circumstances. According to Mallory Rahe, an associate professor at MU Extension, the platform's aim is to make the evaluation process as seamless as possible, enhancing the likelihood of long-term success for farm businesses.

The platform features several interactive tools. Users can take sustainable enterprise product quizzes to find out which crops, or livestock best align with their land’s characteristics and their available resources.

Additionally, land suitability maps help users understand the potential of their land to support different agricultural products. Market intelligence reports provide insights into local consumer preferences and product demand, which are crucial for effective marketing strategies.

Intel for Ag includes business startup resources like checklists and tools for calculating break-even points, empowering farmers to make informed financial decisions from the outset.

Rahe highlights that operations with direct-to-consumer sales generally demonstrate greater longevity, underlining the importance of comprehensive market analysis provided by Intel for Ag.

As Missouri's primary economic driver, agriculture plays a critical role in the region's prosperity. Intel for Ag is a pivotal resource, poised to help farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs optimize their operations and thrive in competitive markets.
