Maximize your cattle's value at Missouri Beef Conference

By Blake Jackson

The University of Missouri Extension and Missouri State University are teaming up to offer the Southwest Missouri Beef Cattle Conference on February 11th in Springfield.

This educational event is designed to equip you with strategies to maximize the value of your cattle and operations.

The conference will be held at the Christopher S. Bond Learning Center at the Darr Agricultural Center on the Missouri State University campus (2401 South Kansas Expressway, Springfield). Registration kicks off at 9:30 AM, and the program continues throughout the day.

"This conference has a mix of industry and university people providing cattle producers strategies to add value to their beef cattle and operation," says Patrick Davis, University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist.

Here's a glimpse of the topics and speakers you can expect:

  • Building a Winning Breeding Program: Learn how to strategically select cattle for breeding to enhance your herd's value, presented by Adam McGee, assistant professor in animal science at MSU.
  • Unlocking Genetic Potential: Clint Bailey, a graduate student in animal science at MU, will delve into using genomics and expected progeny differences to make informed breeding decisions and improve your herd.
  • Calf Management for Success: Veterinarian Cameron Locke of Cedar Creek Veterinary Services will share best practices for effective calf management, leading to healthier animals and a more profitable operation.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Mike John from Health Track Network will explore how data analysis can be leveraged to optimize your cattle operation and increase its value.

The conference fee is $20 per person and includes lunch. To register, visit https://web.cvent.com/event/6e18c9bc-5e91-4e25-bdbb-33eed660139e/regProcessStep1 or mail a check payable to MU Extension in Cedar County to 113 South Street, Stockton, MO 65785.
