A special training session for noncertified restricted-use pesticide (NRUP) applicators is scheduled for May 30 in Nixa, Missouri. The training will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Union Hill Church of Christ, 865 N. Nicholas Road.
Offered by the University of Missouri Extension, this session is designed to help participants meet Missouri’s competency standards for NRUP licensing. Topics include reading and understanding pesticide labels, application techniques, safe storage and disposal of chemicals, and protecting pollinators and wildlife.
Tim Schnakenberg, MU Extension agronomist, noted that the training also includes an overview of state and federal pesticide regulations. Participants will have the chance to ask questions about current developments and best practices in pesticide use.
Those who complete the training will be eligible for a one-year NRUP license. This license allows applicators to use or assess the need for restricted-use pesticides under direct supervision of a certified applicator. It is important to note that NRUP licenses are not categorized; instead, license holders must follow the category their supervisor is certified in.
For individuals seeking a three-year NRUP license, they must pass the general standards CORE exam offered by Pearson Vue.
Registration is open through the MU Extension Center in Christian County by calling 417-581-3558. The deadline to register is 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28. For more information, contact Tim Schnakenberg at 417-357-6812.
This training supports environmental safety, human health, and agricultural productivity by encouraging proper and responsible pesticide use practices in Missouri agriculture.
