Missouri consumers might not be able to find their favorite local wines for the next year or two.
In the near future, consumers should expect more wine with blended grapes, since wineries won't have enough of one type of grape to make a varietal wine, said Jim Anderson, executive director of the Missouri Wine and Grape Board.
Specialty crop producers are facing challenges this year, with Missouri's grape crop down to 30-50 percent of normal this year.
This is because of a combination of factors during the last several months including temperature fluctuations, early and late frosts, some hard freezes and the statewide drought.
