Missouri soybeans soar - yields hit triple digits

Missouri soybeans soar - yields hit triple digits

By Blake Jackson

Move over, Cinderella pumpkins, there's a new crop claiming the spotlight in Missouri: soybeans! The Missouri Soybean Association (MSA) Yield Contest just wrapped up its ninth year, showcasing the state's soybean superstars and their jaw-dropping yields.

Think triple digits! Farmers from across the state's grower districts threw down the gauntlet, pushing the limits of what soybeans can achieve. And the winners? Well, they didn't just win, they crushed it.

In the non-irrigated, conventional tillage category, Nate Bloss of Fulton, Missouri, took home the crown with a staggering 119.28 bushels per acre of Alliance A391E3 soybeans. That's nearly three times the state average!

Across the irrigation divide, Joseph Landewee from Chaffee, Missouri, reigned supreme with 108.65 bushels per acre of Agri Gold XF 4094 soybeans. Not bad for a little H2O boost!

But these champions aren't just about big numbers. They represent the dedication, innovation, and sustainability of Missouri's soybean farmers. They're constantly pushing the boundaries, implementing new practices, and proving that soy can thrive in any environment.

"This contest is about celebrating the hard work and ingenuity of our Missouri soybean farmers," says MSA President Matt Wright. "We're proud of their commitment to sustainable practices and their dedication to producing top-quality crops."

The celebration continues! District winners will be recognized at Winter Soybean Meetings throughout January and March, with the statewide champions receiving their well-deserved accolades at the MSA annual meeting in Jefferson City on January 23rd.

So, raise a glass (of plant-based milk, of course) to the champions of the 2023 Missouri Soybean Yield Contest! They're not just winners, they're an inspiration to us all.
