Scott Hays - leading Missouri pork association

By Blake Jackson

Scott Hays, a lifelong pork producer from Marion County near Monroe City, has recently taken on the role of Executive Director at the Missouri Pork Association.

Growing up on a diverse farm, Hays developed a deep passion for the industry, working closely with his family in raising hogs and managing farm operations. After serving in the military, he eagerly returned to Marion County in 1989 to join the family farm's hog operation.

Over the years, Hays and his family have played a significant role in transforming their hog operation, transitioning it into a modern farrow-to-finish family pork enterprise known as 'Two Mile Pork.' With a keen understanding that the well-being of the pigs correlates with the success of the operation, Hays has continually sought innovative ways to improve their practices and share their farm story with consumers.

Hays' dedication to the pork industry extends beyond the confines of his farm. He has actively engaged in advocacy and leadership roles, serving as Chairman of the Missouri Pork Board and later as President of the National Pork Producers Council. Through these positions, Hays has gained invaluable experience and insights into the challenges and opportunities facing pork producers nationwide.

Drawing from his background and experiences, Hays is poised to lead the Missouri Pork Association into the future. He envisions fostering a positive environment for dialogue and collaboration within the organization, with a focus on strategic planning to ensure it meets the evolving needs of pork producers across all segments of the industry.

Hays recognizes the importance of supporting various approaches to pork production and marketing, emphasizing the value that Missouri Pork can bring to all producer segments.

With his extensive industry knowledge and a commitment to continuous improvement, Hays is well-prepared to guide the Missouri Pork Association through its next chapter. His vision for the organization aligns with his deep-rooted belief in the importance of agriculture and his desire to share its values with future generations. Alongside his wife Riss, Hays looks forward to continuing their legacy of agricultural stewardship and passing on their passion for farming to their twelve grandchildren.

As Hays embarks on this new role, he brings with him not only a wealth of experience but also a genuine dedication to serving the pork industry and advancing its interests. Under his leadership, the Missouri Pork Association is poised to thrive and continue its mission of supporting pork producers and promoting the importance of agriculture in Missouri.
